Since we’re on a serious East Coast Wake Park kick right now, we figured it was as good a time as any to drop this little gem. A few weeks ago, Nick went to the Sunshine State with the ECWP crew. The weather wasn’t great, but they hit up the cable park at McCormick’s then used some big name industry connections to sneak into The Projects, which is officially closed to people who are less cool than they are.

If you saw the teaser we did for ECWP’s big rail unveiling, you’ve already seen some footage from this trip. The guys met up with Kevin Henshaw and got a few clips of him at both spots, but they all did their fair share of riding themselves. Nick even rode the cable a little bit on this trip, which is kind of like an Albino American Alligator; you know it exists but very few people have ever actually seen it.

The guys kept the camera rolling for most of the trip and Nick put together a little summary of their trip. And if I can be honest with you guys, it all kind of pisses me off. Every winter they do this: they go on a trip and it looks fun and then I have to see the video which is pretty much just a collection of awesome times those assholes had without me.

Oh hey, and guess where they are right now? Yep, that’s right. Florida. Which means that we’ll soon have more memories of their good times to suffer through. Geez guys, why don’t you rub it in a little more?

It’s a well documented fact that everyone loves free stuff. Case in point: the best part of announcing a wakeboard contest is being able to throw free stuff out to kids. One time last year, I had about 20 dudes form their own little semi-violent circle pit trying to catch a bunch of women’s scarves and a jewelry box. Why? Because it was free.

Well, the fine folks at Alliance are gearing up to give away six copies of our magnum opus, No Name Losers. All you have to do is be the first to answer a few trivia questions correctly and you win a copy of the DVD. Simple right? Head over to their website or Twitter page and make us proud!

A while back, our buddy Chris Hopf from East Coast Wake Park gave us a call to let us know about a few of his plans for 2010. Apparently, the fine folks at Liquid Force had agreed to send up team rider and all around jib-ninja Kevin Henshaw to help Chris design and build a new rail for the park. Chris was being really secretive about it though, and apparently very few people know what he and Henshaw actually have in store for the park. So in true Greenville fashion, Chris decided to make a big ol’ party out of it and he decided to have a full-on demo day at the park to kick off the season proper-like.

So if you’re curious to see what East Coast Wake Park has in store for this year, be sure to head out there on Saturday March 13th. Not only will you be able to watch Henshaw tear the rails apart, but you can get out there and ride yourself. Plus, you’ll have the chance to try out all the 2010 Liquid Force boots and bindings, including the new Henshaw FLX. Chris was raving about this board at the Raleigh boat show and Nick even said that while they were in Florida last week, Chris insisted on sleeping with his board every night. Kind of weird, but I’m not here to judge. Whatever floats your boat, Chris.

Anyway, the whole thing kicks off next Saturday, March 13th at 10 AM for the big unveiling of the new rail. Be sure to get out there early so you can ohh and ahhh as they reveal the new contraption. Nick and I will be out there shooting so come give us a high five or something. And in the meantime, check out the teaser we did for the event. Get pumped: it’s almost springtime.

When it was all said and done, Justin really didn’t ride much at all while we were shooting No Name Losers. His part was probably made up of fewer than a dozen sets, most of which took place during the final two weeks leading up to the premiere at Riverfest. With that in mind, it’s pretty impressive how his part turned out; he’s got a few bangers in there along with some of the best overall shots in the movie. One of the coolest things about his part was the fact that he had a few good lines in there that showed how well he rode switch. I mean, it’s not every day that you see a guy do a KGB – Switch KGB or a Dum Dum – Switch Dum Dum back to back.

So in the spirit of No Name Leftovers, we’ve pulled together the following clips of Justin. It’s another pretty short video, but keep in mind that he’s goofy footed and you don’t see a single goofy-footed trick in the bunch. Now let that sink in for a minute; me personally, I would be pumped if I could do some of this stuff regular, let alone switch. I’m really not much of a “movie person.” I have a really short attention span and it’s pretty hard for me to stay focused on a movie long enough to…hey look at that bird outside my window. Jesus, that thing is huge. I really want some mexican food right now.

Anyway, maybe it’s due to my lack of focus, but I can watch trailers and opening credits for movies all day long. I guess it’s because they’re short and to the point and there’s not much of a story you have to follow, but I love them. Case in point, I wasn’t really into the Watchmen movie last year, but I seriously lost my shit over the opening sequence. Well, I saw  Zombieland the other day, and contrary to my usual cinematic experience, I was so pumped on the whole thing that I watched it again the next morning, which I’ve never done in my life. The whole movie is great but the opening credits absolutely blew me away. It has two of my favorite things in the world: slow motion and old Metallica; I kind of feel like it was made especially for me. Throw in some unreal motion graphics and you’ve got yourself quite the intro.

I’ve watched the intro at least ten times on YouTube since then, and every time I see it I get really excited. Check it out, but be warned that there’s a lot of blood and guts and zombies eating people.

I really want to go edit something. This summer is going to be great.

See that picture right there? Does that silhouette look familiar? Well it should, because it’s none other than  our very own Nick Joesph slayshin’ up a storm in Orlando. Shot by Jason Lee, the two page spread made it into the latest issue from our friends at Alliance Wakeboard Magazine and I seriously couldn’t be any prouder. Historically, I’m always really pumped to see people from around the region get  some recognition for being awesome, but I was absolutely freaking when I heard about this. So congratulations, Nick, you’re a total bad ass.

Does that guy look familiar? Well, he should because it’s Adam Fields and everyone and their cousin seems to know Adam Fields. Like I said, it’s really good to see someone from the region getting some love, but let’s be honest: Adam’s gotten a bunch of shots over the years. Why is this one special, you ask? Well I’ll tell you why: it was taken by none other than photographer and Avatar super-fan Jason Hudson. This is Jason’s first published shot (as far as I know), so I know that he’s really excited as well.

Welcome to the big time, boys. It’s a good thing that Smith has our back because the future’s looking pretty bright.

We all got pretty banged up at one point or another over the course of shooting, but one guy stood head and shoulders above the rest in the crash department: Jason Green. Jason really didn’t get much time in front of the camera due to some nagging injuries, but when he did get a chance to shoot, he went full throttle and ended up taking some pretty awesome falls in the process.

Now don’t the wrong idea; it’s not like Jason’s a bad rider. In fact, that couldn’t be further from the truth. But for some reason, the guy takes some of the hardest falls I’ve ever seen. Sometimes he would just hit the wake and all hell would break loose; it’s pretty easy to understand why he always seems to be injured. Dude definitely deserves a Purple Heart for his performance last year.

So in honor of Jason sacrificing his body for the sake a wakeboard movie, I give you No Name Leftovers Volume Two. Consider it the sequel to NNL’s Crash Section.

I absolutely lost my mind when I saw this on Sunday night.

I had heard that Arcade Fire had licensed their completely bad ass song “Wake Up” to the NFL for use during the Super Bowl and that all the proceeds from the licensing process were going to be donated to Hati Earthquake victims. I was kind of curious how the NFL was going to use the song, and my heart sank when I heard it being used two separate times before this with much, much less impressive results. Then this spot came on and I freaked.

There was also a VW spot that featured the song “Two Weeks” by Grizzly Bear, which is another solid jam. I’m really pumped that good bands are starting to end up in commercials like this more and more. I admit that Phoenix got kind of played out last year thanks to everyone jumping on “1901,” but I would way rather hear this stuff in commercials than the Black Eyed Peas or some shitty band like that.

Bonus Fact: If you check our stats, the most popular search engine term that people use to find our site  is “Black Eyed Peas” or some similar variation. It took a while to figure out why, but a while back, I wrote a post about bands that should never ever be in another wakeboard video. Black Eyed Peas were one of the offenders, and that one post has led hundreds of people looking for information on the band to this website. I can only imagine how angry they were once they got here…

Now, a lot of you know Jason and if so, you probably know that he has his faults. He’’s totally into movies like Avatar, his favorite font is Comic Sans and he always leaves lights on and cabinet doors open. Plus, just yesterday he was trying to tell me how great Hootie and the Blowfish were. But the bottom line is that he takes some awesome photos, so it’s nice to see him get some love for it. Cruise over to Alliance’s site and show Jason some support.

I know I’m totally biased because Jason’s my buddy/roommate/bowling partner, but I’m really pumped on that shot; It’s actually framed in my living room right now. If you want to see more of his stuff, head over to his website.

These Photo Battles have a history of getting pretty heated and a lot of funny comments get posted, so if you see someone talkin’ smack, be sure to step in there and rough ‘em up, internet style. Tell ‘em the blue chick from Avatar sent you.

As the reality of that cold, depressing fact was sinking in, I saw this sketch an Saturday Night Live the other night and all I could think about was getting my high school band back together and playing at the reunion. We could play pretty much the entire Blink 182 and NOFX catalogs, so as you can imagine, we were a pretty big hit at Harrells Christian Academy during the late 90’s. This is pretty much the best thing I’ve seen on SNL in years.

As a sidenote, I saw Metallica: Behind the Music last night and so this morning I’m listening to the first four records in chronological order. Highly recommended.
