Photo Battle Part Duex

Posted in 1 with tags , , , , on February 8, 2010 by telepromptedanthems

As you may have seen on Alliance’s site, Jason Hudson is up for yet another Photo Battle, this time with a shot of North Carolina’s favorite pro wakeboarder, Adam Fields.

Now, a lot of you know Jason and if so, you probably know that he has his faults. He’’s totally into movies like Avatar, his favorite font is Comic Sans and he always leaves lights on and cabinet doors open. Plus, just yesterday he was trying to tell me how great Hootie and the Blowfish were. But the bottom line is that he takes some awesome photos, so it’s nice to see him get some love for it. Cruise over to Alliance’s site and show Jason some support.

I know I’m totally biased because Jason’s my buddy/roommate/bowling partner, but I’m really pumped on that shot; It’s actually framed in my living room right now. If you want to see more of his stuff, head over to his website.

These Photo Battles have a history of getting pretty heated and a lot of funny comments get posted, so if you see someone talkin’ smack, be sure to step in there and rough ‘em up, internet style. Tell ‘em the blue chick from Avatar sent you.

Not Wakeboarding…

Posted in Random with tags , , on February 8, 2010 by telepromptedanthems

Last week, I got a Facebook message from a girl I went to high school with, asking for my address because she’s planning my 10 year high school reunion.

As the reality of that cold, depressing fact was sinking in, I saw this sketch an Saturday Night Live the other night and all I could think about was getting my high school band back together and playing at the reunion. We could play pretty much the entire Blink 182 and NOFX catalogs, so as you can imagine, we were a pretty big hit at Harrells Christian Academy during the late 90’s. This is pretty much the best thing I’ve seen on SNL in years.

As a sidenote, I saw Metallica: Behind the Music last night and so this morning I’m listening to the first four records in chronological order. Highly recommended.

No Name Leftovers – Volume One

Posted in News, Wakeboarding with tags , , , , on February 4, 2010 by telepromptedanthems

Okay, so before I get into the new stuff, I want to be sure to send a big thank you to everyone who has ordered a copy of the No Name Losers DVD. It really means a lot that you guys would be willing to plunk down some hard earned cash on something that we made, so thank you very very much; we really appreciate it. For those of you that haven’t ordered it yet, we still like you okay, but we’d like you a lot more if you went to the online store and got a copy of your own.

You may have noticed by now that we haven’t posted any new videos in a while. That’s partially because we’ve been busy tying up all the loose ends for No Name Losers and it’s partially because it’s the dead of winter and most of us would rather hump a campfire than wakeboard in the cold.

Well, during the course of making No Name Losers, a lot of footage was left on the cutting room floor and for one reason or another didn’t make it into the movie. Even though they didn’t make the final cut, some of those clips are still pretty cool, so we’ve decided to go through the trash here at TA HQ, dig out some of the rejects and post them as part of a new series called NO NAME LEFTOVERS. They’ll be pretty short clips here and there, but it’s like I always say: a quickie is always better than nothing (Am I right??? wink wink HEY-YO! ).

Our first volume in the No Name Leftovers saga is one that caused quite a bit of tension between Nick and myself during the final days of editing. During their last minute filming excursion to the Randall Gap, Nick got this really awesome shot of Fabian Ashley narrowly avoiding death on an ollie gone wrong. It would appear that Fabian ollied just a bit too late and the gap jumped up and bit him, sending him head over heels straight toward the ten foot concrete slab right below the waterfall. Now anyone who knows Fabian knows that he’s a big boy and as you can imagine, he came down like a ton of bricks, almost taking out photographer Jason Hudson in the process. Luckily, he made it past the concrete and came up laughing nervously about what might have happened.

So then we were faced with the dilemma of whether or not it should go in the movie. We had literally no other clips of Fabian and the premiere was two days after this was shot. Nick was really pushing hard to include it in the crash section, and rightfully so; it’s a pretty awesome crash. However, my argument was that it might come off as kind of a dick move to just show one clip of Fabian almost dying and not show any of his good riding. I didn’t want to offend the guy, plus, we didn’t really have friends in the crash section anyway, so we just left it out completely.

Well, now you get a chance to see it in all its glory, complete with a brilliant introduction by Clay Martin. Although I have to admit, I do feel pretty ridiculous for typing that much in order to explain a minute long video. Oh well, stay tuned for more leftovers and enjoy Fabian Ashley’s brush with death at the Randall Gap.

Going to the Post Office…

Posted in News with tags , , on January 26, 2010 by telepromptedanthems

This is what the floor in my office looks like right now. Taking these bad boys to the post office in a bit…

And by the way, that piece of junk Dell isn’t mine; I have to use it for work. So don’t be getting the wrong idea, I’m still the stereotypical fanboy.

Just in case your copy of the No Name Losers DVD isn’t in one of those piles, head to our online store and you still might have time to get in on this trip to the post office.

Sellers Remix Up Now On Alliancewake.com

Posted in News with tags on January 21, 2010 by telepromptedanthems

By now, you’ve all undoubtedly heard the big news that the No Name Losers DVD is done and shipping. For those of you who are curious about what the bonus features are like, the kind folks at Alliance have agreed to put up a little sample on their website, so head over there now to get a sneak peek of Justin Sellers’ remix section. You won’t be able to find it anywhere else on the internets (not even on our own Vimeo page), so be sure to go check it out and maybe leave a comment saying how awesome we are or something. No pressure though, it’s totally up to you. Anyway, big thanks to Brooke, Rusty, and the whole Alliance crew for hooking that up.

And now comes the inevitable sales pitch: You really and truly don’t want to be the last person on your block to have a copy of this DVD, so go ahead get yours in our online store. It’s full of bonus stuff like more remixes, trailers, a brilliant commentary from Nick and myself, and more. My mom says that it’s the best wakeboard video that she’s ever seen and let me tell you, that woman knows her stuff.

OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Posted in News with tags , , , , on January 20, 2010 by telepromptedanthems

We here at Teleprompted Anthems, being the budding titans of industry that we are, are very pleased to announce that we have officially opened our online store. It’s still pretty bare bones (my sister actually called it “pathetic”), but as of right now it’s the only place on the world wide web that you can get your hands on the brand new No Name Losers DVD.

Yes folks, that was my not-so-subtle way of letting you know that it’s done. Finally. Over a year in the making and over four months after the damn thing premiered, the No Name Losers DVD is actually ready to be unleashed on the public. I’ve seen them, I’ve held them, they’re in my possession and as of today, they’re ready to ship. Look…I have proof! Here’s what my desk looks like right now:

I’ve been in full on Do-It-Yourself mode getting the DVD ready, meaning that for the last week I’ve been compressing, burning, printing, assembling and packing every single one of these things. I kind of feel like Ian Mackaye assembling the first Minor Threat records; the only difference is that this is a wakeboard DVD, not a revolutionary hardcore record that sparked an entire movement and changed the lives of thousands of kids all over the world. Seriously though, other than that the similarities are downright spooky.

Anyhow, since we’re so punk rock and went the DIY route, we’re pretty pumped to say that the DVD can be yours for the low, low price of $15, plus $2 for shipping. $17 out the door, folks…it’s a steal! And just to add to the value, the DVD is loaded up with bonus features, including alternate edits, trailers, commentary from Nick and myself, and more.

For those of you who are scared of the internet or don’t have a computer (how the hell are you seeing this right now?), the DVD’s will also be available at Aussie Island Surf Shop in Wilmington and at Icy Waves Surf Shop at Lake Norman. If you live in one of those areas, please go get your copy from them because they’re rad people and they have always had our backs so therefore they are forever deserving of your business. Pick up some other stuff while you’re there, too…Tell them Brad sent you. There might be some more spots to pick up the DVD in the future but for right now, that’s it so if those locations aren’t convenient to you, scoop one up in our store.

It’s been a long time coming, and we’d be remiss if we didn’t say say thank you so much for all the support and the patience while we were wrapping this thing up. A lot of people have said a lot of really nice things about the movie since we premiered it in October and we definitely appreciate it. Keep your eyes open for new items making their way into the store as the year goes on; no definite plans just yet, but I’ve got a few ideas I’ve been kicking around, so stay tuned.

And oh my God, NC State just beat Duke. In basketball. That’s as good an ending as I’ve ever heard.

It’s Miller Time

Look on the computer screen.

That’s what a DVD looks like when it’s burning.

Big update coming very soon.

Vote For Jason!

Posted in News, Random with tags on December 21, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

Okay, so NC resident wake photographer Jason Hudson is in the running for Alliance’s Weekly Photo Battle. His shot of Lake Norman’s very own Ben Pierce is up on the Alliance site and voting just began today, so be sure to roll over there, cast your vote and maybe leave a funny comment or something.

In other Jason Hudson news, dude just moved in with me in Davidson, so Lake Norman needs to get ready for a 2010 season chock full of riding, shooting and, more than likely, bowling. Until then, check out his shot on Alliance’s website and show NC some love.

Also, a quick little update on the No Name Losers DVD: there have been a whole bunch of setbacks and I know it seems like I’m totally slacking on getting this thing done, but hang in there. I should be getting the DVD artwork back tomorrow and we’ll be shipping them out as soon as humanly possible after the Christmas holiday. Thanks for the patience and stay tuned.

NO NAME LOSERS – FULL VIDEO

Posted in Features, News, Wakeboarding with tags on November 20, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

Well, guys, here it is…the moment that at least a handful of you have been waiting for.

A little over a year in the making, we’re very proud to present our very first full-length project, “NO NAME LOSERS.” For those of you who who don’t know what we’re talking about, No Name Losers is the first team video for Aussie Island Surf Shop in Wilmington, NC. They’ve been in the wakeboarding game for over a decade and have amassed a pretty good team of riders in that time; the movie pretty much just documents the team and what they’ve done over the past 13 months.

It was definitely an interesting experience over the past year. I had more than my fair share of freakouts (especially the week leading up to the premiere), and Nick had more than his fair share of frustrations along the way. Even the riders had to deal with things like seemingly endless traveling, early morning shoots in 45 degree weather, broken boards, broken ribs, a demanding shooter and an even more demanding editor. It’s a twisted tale of money, lies, sex, and power, but that’s all I can say because we’re in talks with E! about developing “No Name Losers – The True Hollywood Story”

Anyway, a whole lot of work from a whole lot of people went into this thing and there honestly isn’t enough space in the credits to thank everyone, so if you helped us in any way over the past year or made it out to the premiere or any of the screenings on the Collegiate Wake Series, thanks so much; we really appreciate it. A very big thanks also goes out to the sponsors who helped make the movie possible, including Slingshot Wakeboards, Smith Optics, Wake Riders Connection, and East Coast Wake Park.

Starting today, the movie is streaming in its entirety here and on our Vimeo page. If you want to save the movie or take it on-the-go, you can download the entire thing for free right here. It’s optimized for your iPhone or iPod and will play directly from your iTunes library.

A lot of you have been asking about the DVD and when it will be ready. Well, now that the movie is finally finished, it’s ready to be replicated and DVD’s should be shipping right after Thanksgiving. The DVD’s will be a 2-disc set that includes the movie and all the trailers we did for it, plus a bonus disc with alternate edits, web videos, and commentary from Nick and myself. Keep checking back over the next week or so for more info about how to score a copy of the DVD. We’ll be selling it online and Aussie Island will have copies available; we’re also working out some details trying to get the DVD’s in some other shops around the region, so we’ll keep you posted on that once everything is ironed out.

I know it’s been a long time coming, so thanks for all the patience and support; I think I can speak for Nick and the rest of the guys when I say we’re pretty happy with the way the movie came out and we’re really excited for everyone else to see it. Check it out and let us know what you think.

M-E-T-H-O-D MAN

clay

That’s right folks, our very own Clay Martin is a finalist in the Alliance Battle Royale Method contest. He submitted a bad ass Method to BS 180 that would have made Jeff McKee proud, and now he’s one of the top three finalists in the running to win the whole thing. Check out the video right here:

Now here’s where you guys come in: go to the Alliance site and vote for Clay. This is democracy at it’s finest, people; you have a voice, now let it be heard. If we can come together, we can lead Clay to victory! YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN! VOTE HERE!

Voting ends on November 20, so get in there and show our boy some love. And congratulations, Clay…if Teleprompted Anthems were the Wu Tang Clan, you would most definitely be Method Man.

Wilmington’s Blowing Up

Well, it looks like our boy Jason Hudson is quickly becoming the guy to know if you want some wakeboarding media love. I just saw a story on the infamous Randall Gap in Wilmington, along with some sweet shots of Nick slaying the beast while we were filming for No Name Losers. Nice job Jason and as always, thanks for the shoutouts. Check the story out at Alliance’s website.

While we’re on the topic of No Name Losers, I figured I’d throw in an update. I’m just about finished gathering all the bonus material so now I’ve just got to tighten up the intro and we’ll be ready to drop this bad boy. If I had to wager a guess, I would say it will be available in about two weeks. Thanks for the patience and hopefully you guys will be psyched on the final product. Plus, it wouldn’t be a real wakeboard movie if there weren’t a bunch of delays getting it released, right?

No Name Losers Premiere

Posted in News on October 7, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

NNL_003(2)

So yeah, it’s been a while since I’ve updated the site, but I have a legitimate excuse this time. For the past two weeks, we’ve been scrambling trying to get the movie ready and on Saturday night, all that hard work paid off and we premiered No Name Losers to a packed house at Diesel Downtown in Wilmington.

I think I can speak for all of us when I say that the premiere went much better than we could have ever hoped for, and we really appreciate all you guys coming out and supporting what we’ve been working so hard on for the past few months. Last week was one of the longest and most sleep-deprived weeks of my life, and not to get too cheesy, but hearing everyone cheering and going crazy while the movie was playing totally made it all worthwhile.

Now that I’ve had a minute to catch my breath, I have to spend a little time tightening everything up for the final release. Everyone’s been asking when the movie will be available, and it shouldn’t be too long. I’ve just got to get all the bonus features together and work on a few small edits and we should be good. Be sure to keep checking back for the details.

Once again, thanks so much to Rob at Empire Wake and to everyone who came out on Saturday night. I heard that there were over 300 people in there and that it was the best night the club has ever had under the current management, which is pretty crazy to me. So thanks a ton for being there; it really did mean a lot to Nick and I and all the riders.

For those of you that missed it (or don’t quite remember how everything went down), Jason Hudson took a ton of pictures and posted them on his website. He also did a killer writeup of the night for Alliance, which can be found here. Be sure to check those out and laugh at how I get progressively drunker/more ridiculous as the night goes on. Thanks for the shots, Jason.

Here’s a preview of what to expect…I would like to think this was pretty late in the evening, but who knows?

7735_607972671136_40503154_35897850_184464_n

More updates, more often…Pretty excited for everyone to see the final product. Just for good measure, why don’t we throw up that trailer one more time?

NO NAME LOSERS

Posted in News on September 15, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

Well folks, here it is…for almost a year now, we’ve been working on our first full-length project and here’s the final, super-official trailer. “No Name Losers” is the first team video for Aussie Island, a bad ass little shop in Wilmington that we all happen to ride for. Chris and Dean at Aussie Island are awesome guys and have been pushing wakeboarding in the area for years, so it made sense to team up with them and document all the riding that goes on around here. We’ve also gotten a ton of help from the fine folks at Slingshot Wakeboards, Smith Optics, Wake Riders Connection and East Coast Wake Park, so a big thanks goes out to all those guys.

When it’s finished this Fall, the entire video will be available to watch and download for free right here. It’ll be nice and convenient and you’ll even be able to put it on your iPod or iPhone.

Of course, for those of you that prefer to watch stuff on the big screen, there will also be a two-disc special edition DVD available, which will not only include the video, but a whole bunch of bonus stuff like alternate edits, DVD commentary, web videos, and more. The special edition DVD’s will be available at Aussie Island and through an online store that we haven’t even begun to think about setting up yet.

We’re also really excited to announce that the movie will premiere next month in Wilmington at the annual Riverfest afterparty, which is the Atlas Wake Series’ grand finale. Be sure to round up all your friends and drag them out to Diesel on Saturday October 3rd; keep checking here and www.empirewake.com for more information on Riverfest and the premiere.

Thanks so much to all you guys who actually read the blog and watch the videos…we definitely appreciate it and hope everyone is pumped on the movie when it comes out. Check out the trailer and keep checking back for more updates.

An Open Letter to Whoever Stole Clay’s Board

Posted in News on September 9, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

Clay's Board

Dear Sir or Madam…

You are a huge piece of shit. I can only hope that on your way to the pawn shop, you get abducted and power raped by a gang of grizzly bears and have to walk 15 miles back to safety after they’ve had their way with you. I wouldn’t piss on you if you burst into flames right in front of my face. If your first-born child ran out in front of my car, I’d run them over, back up, run over them again and then send you the bill from the body shop after I got my bumper fixed. Eat shit and die.

Sincerely,
Brad

In case you haven’t caught on yet, someone stole Clay’s board, vest and rope. Keep your eyes out for a 2009 Slingshot Response 142 with D3 bindings and a black Aussie Island sticker on it. These assclowns also got his vest, a medium Oneill Revenge, and his rope, a white Accurate A-Line with a Proline Synthesis handle. If you see these guys, kick them in the balls. If it was a chick, you can just punch her really hard in the face. Trust us, it’s cool in this situation.

Stay Tuned…

Hey doodz…Sorry for the radio silence lately, but we’ve been scrambling working out some final details for a few things. Check back here over the next few days, because we’re going to be dropping some bombs on you guys really soon. In the meantime, check out a picture of a trailer (hint hint) that looks like Eddie Murphy.

What Happens in G-Vegas…

Before I met Chris Hopf, I would see his name on End of Rope Gang and wonder to myself how you were supposed to pronounce his last name. I mean, no offense, but P and F aren’t exactly two letters you see paired up very often. Was the P silent? Was the F silent? Either way, that would mean at least a quarter of the dude’s last name was for decorative purposes only, which led me to belive one thing: the guy was a weirdo and shouldn’t be trusted.

Well, I was just being silly because when I finally met Chris I found out he’s and awesome dude who’s got a knack for building rails and then showing them who’s boss on his wakeboard. He was the mastermind behind the Wake Farm, a legendary wake park that has since seen its last session (which we were there for; keep an eye out for some footy this fall), but Chris has got some new stuff up his sleeve near Greenville, NC and from what I’ve heard, it’s going to be awesome. He just started a little blog where you can see the progress at the park, so check it out and bookmark it, because I have a feeling that you’re all going to want to see what goes down at this place. Tim Boyer goes out there quite a bit and he calls me all the time saying it’s going to be the coolest thing that NC wakeboarding has ever seen. Check it out:

www.eastcoastwake.blogspot.com

Before I go, I want it to be known that I absolutely DO NOT condone anyone calling the town of Greenville  “G-Vegas,” but I had to come up with a title and that’s all I could think of. Do as I say, not as I do, children.

Progress…

Barnes Edit

Well, we’ve had a big past couple days around here…we’ve officially moved into the post-production stage of our new project. Of course, we’re not really out of production yet, but that’s a minor detail and who really cares about those anyway?

As you’ll see above, I’ve started editing Barnes’ section and the rest of the crew is soon to follow. Keep your eyes and ears open because it won’t be too long before we unleash all the details about this whole damn video and you know that you don’t want to be the last person on your block to get the scoop.

As some of you may or may not know, the Atlas Wake Series blew through Smith Mountain Lake a while back. My recollection of the event is fuzzy at best, so I’m psyched that Jason Hudson was around to document things. Dude’s been shooting with the crew down in Wilmington for just about a year now and he’s gotten some pretty awesome stuff of everyone. So much awesome stuff in fact, that Jason is pretty much the official Facebook Profile Picture Supplier to Teleprompted Anthems. I’m rocking a new profile pic from that weekend and it makes me look way cooler than I’ll ever be in real life, so thanks Jason.

Here’s a little taste of the stuff he got that weekend at SML. If you want to see more, check out his photo gallery of the event at Alliancewake.com or head on over to his website, Jkellerphotography.com. He’s got a ton of wake stuff on there, plus surfing, motocross, really hot girls, and a bunch of other pretty photography stuff.

PS – That last shot is of Lake Norman’s very own  Stephen Pierce. Dude straight up killed it at SML and walked away with a first place in Open. For the past few days, Clay, Ronnie and Barnes have been at my house in Davidson trying to get some shots for the video and Stephen has been nice enough to let us use his boat for filming and riding. Thanks Broseph!

I found this Nike SB spot this morning and I got to admit, it came at just the right time. It’s only Tuesday, I’m stuck at work, and I just got an email from my Mom saying that the starter on our boat shat the bed this weekend. But after seeing this spot, I’m in a pretty good mood.

Future Plans

I’m going to learn everything I can about skimboarding, just so Nick and I can make a movie called “Skimulus Package.” I should go ahead and get that bad boy trademarked because it’s such a bad ass name, I would imagine that someone will probably have stolen it by this time next week.

PS – Smith Mountian Lake was off the chain. See you doodz at Lake Norman.

Random Thoughts

Posted in News on July 22, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

1. Alliance has started shipping out copies of Rewritten, the new Hyperlite movie. It’s really well made and a ton of rad stuff goes down; pretty much par for the course for the guys at Alliance. There are a ton of awesome shots involving cranes and platforms in the water and a whole lot of other stuff that makes wakeboarding look cool.  Check out a trailer and order your copy.

2. Derek Grassman is a funny guy and he updates his blog like a damn maniac. Would you like to see some sneak previews of the new 2010 CWB jams? Are you curious what it’s like to live with Jeff House? Do you enjoy interior design and architecture? If you answered yes to any of those questions, you need to click here and check that bad boy often because he’s got something new on there every time you turn around.

3. The Atlas Wake Series is coming through Smith Mountian Lake this weekend.  Ronnie and I have already decided that we’re going to rage all weekend. Come rage with us.

4. In movie news, I’m just about caught up on logging footy and there are a few film trips to (kind of) exotic locales in the works. We’ve been getting word that people all across the country are literally on the edge of their seats in anticipation for us to drop this bad boy on the wakeboarding world. One well-known messageboard poster was quoted as saying “F**k it, might as well go ahead and give them Video of the Year.” I have to be honest, the pressure that we’re under right now is almost unbearable.

Until next time, faithful readers…

Random Thoughts

Posted in Random on June 12, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

So if you’re one of the four people that actually visit this website regularly (hi Mom), I guess you’ve probably noticed that we haven’t posted any new videos since back in the winter. Well, we’ve been hoarding footage like a bunch of selfish five-year-olds and we’re not letting any of it see the light of day until the time is right. When will the time be right, you ask? That’s a great question, and I’ll have an answer for you one of these days. In the meantime though, here’s what’s been on my mind lately.

1. Harley Clifford is a damn beast. Watch this. Try to ignore the super awkward shots of a 15 year old just hanging around the house without a shirt on, flexing for the camera.

2. Is anyone else getting annoyed with people referring to wakeboarding as “shredding?” I agree it was kind of a funny, quirky way to say it at first, but now people say it all the time and it’s starting to grate on my nerves. Get on Facebook and check people’s status: “Going Shredding.” “Getting my shred on.” Shredding all day.” Missing the Shred.” Anyone want to shred?” It doesn’t end, and it seems like everyone and their cousin says it now. I’m not going to name any names, but come on guys. Like Uncle Joey says: “Cut it out.”

3. Has anyone seen any shots of people wakeboarding in short sleeve button up shirts yet?

4. I wakeboarded for the first time in about a year the other day. As you might have guessed, it was brutal. Everyone in Wilmington, on the other hand, seems to be riding really well.

5. If you’re looking for some new jams, do yourself a favor and check out new records from Phoenix, Isis, Japandroids, Big Business, and Kylesa.

6. Since we don’t have any new videos, I’m going to leave you with this one.

Old Skool – Brad Holland

Posted in Old School, Wakeboarding on May 10, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

I’ve been getting the feeling that people don’t believe that I ever actually wakeboard and instead spend my time in front of a computer criticizing people who do. Since I rarely ever get the chance to ride in front of a camera (and never ride well when I do get the chance), I figured I would post this.

I found this at my Mom’s house recently, along with a bunch of old photos and newspaper clippings. It’s my sponsor-me tape from 1998, and it’s a nice little walk down memory lane. Please note the tiny wake and the lack of a tower or extended pylon in most of the shots. Of course, it’s also kind of embarrassing; I spend a lot of time doing stuff like throwing shakas, air rolls, and doing tricks over my buddy Rob while we’re both wearing leisure suits. I also claim the shit out of a trick I filmed myself doing on the trampoline. I was a pretty big dork, but I bet you were too/will be also when you’re 16, so get off my back. You can also see the early developmental stages of my somewhat fiery temper: there are a few times where I either get really pissed at myself or flip off a jet skier.

If you really want to get technical, this is one of the first TA videos ever made. It was edited one night using the old “hook two VCR’s together” method where you just edit in real time using the pause and record buttons. This is probably a third or fourth generation copy, so that’s why it looks so bad. I must have taped over a tape from the school my Mom taught at, because you can definitely see a classroom full of children right before the thing starts.

It’s like a time capsule from the late nineties, so sit back and enjoy some old school wakeboarding set to the soothing sounds of Unwritten Law and Sublime. And don’t be surprised if you get the urge to do a couple air rolls, bleach your hair blond, and wear clothes that are two sizes too big.

Nick G vs Brad H – A Peace Offering

Posted in News on May 5, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

Well, I know we were feuding yesterday, but I figured that I properly put Nick G in his place and we won’t have any more trouble from him for quite some time, so why not post this?

A while back, homeboy landed a Heel Nine in front of the camera for The Wake Place and now it’s the Trick of the Day over there. Click here to check it out.

IN YOUR FACE, NICK G!

Posted in News, Random on May 4, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

Our good buddy Nick G. took it upon himself to provide a counterpoint to my “Hot or Not 2009″ post, and I feel the need to defend my honor and reputation by responding to his criticisms. You may wonder why I would choose to do it as a new post and not in response to his comment. Well, the answer is because I haven’t posted anything in a while and I wanted to make sure that everyone saw me as I dispelled every single thing he said.

First, if you haven’t seen Nick’s comment, you can go check that out right here.

And now, my rebuttal.

Nick, I respect your opinion. But I feel as if I must respond to several of your arguments, as the majority of them simply do not hold water. I’m going to address your comments individually, so as not to confuse any issues.

1. This is the one argument I can’t really argue with: loud trunks do in fact sell very well. You know what else sells very well? Hannah Montana CD’s, Ed Hardy  t-shirts and those stickers that you always see on mini-vans that show a family of stick figures with a character to represent each parent, child and pet. The point is, just because something sells well doesn’t make it cool. Oftentimes, it makes it really lame. I think Kenny Powers said it best when he stated “You know I love you, I think you’re great. But you’ve got clothes like a fuckin’ dickhead.”

2. No self respecting surfer will wear trunks over his fullsuit. This is a cold, hard fact. If you really see this as much as you say, there are only 2 possible explanations: 1) That surfer is making fun of wakeboarders, or 2) That surfer is a massive tool. Either way, it doesn’t help your argument.

3. Jealous? Listen kid, I was doing melan 180’s into the flats before you could even say “Froggy Soven.” I don’t really think I need to say anything else.

4. Glad to see you have some kind of sense.

5. The System 2.0 is bad ass, and in retrospect, I probably should have included it on the list. But it’s apples and oranges compared to a winch. Besides the obvious cost difference, you can use a winch in far more places and transport it far easier than a 2.0 setup. And that’s what makes the whole winch thing so cool: versatility. Plus, I don’t have a pond or private lake in my backyard where I could keep a System 2.0, and I’m willing to bet that the majority of riders don’t either.

6. Tell your friend to take themselves to work. No one like a mooch.

Feel free to continue with your criticisms at your convenience, but do be prepared for me to absolutely disprove beyond a shadow of a doubt every argument you produce. And I hope your knee feels better.

Party In The City Where The Heat Is On

Posted in News on April 22, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

Well, I’m getting ready to get on a plane and fly south to announce the Board Up Miami contest this weekend. Like Will Smith said, I’ll be bouncin’ in the club where the heat is on, all night on the beach till the break of dawn.

I talked to Adam Fields last night and he said that the hotel is right in the middle of South Beach and there’s a party every night of the contest. I’ve never spent much time in the MIA, so I’m pretty psyched. I’m thinking about trying to track down the Miami Ink guys and get a sweet tribal tatt while I’m down there.

Wish me luck, and if you’re in the area, come check out the contest. ‘Cause there’s water so clear you can see to the bottom, Hundred thousand dollar cars eybody got em, Aint no surprise in the club to see Sly Stallone, Miami my second home.

Hot or Not: Spring 2009

Posted in Random on April 8, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

Wakeboarding trends come and go…Some are ahead of their time and some completely wear out their welcome. In an attempt to keep you on the cutting edge of trends and fashion in the wake industry, I’ve provided this handy little guide for 2009. It’s kind of a long read, but you should read it, know it, and live it. Whatever you do, just don’t go against what I say, because this is the internet, and opinions are facts around here.

We’ll start with the “Not’s” because they’re more prominent in the sport and it’s always fun to call people out.

5. Loud Boardshorts - Come on people, this is not the early 90’s. It’s not even cool in an ironic sense anymore; dudes in 2009 shouldn’t be dressing ironically. The neon and the wild patterns need to go, otherwise we’ll never get respect from the other boardsports. And we all know that’s the most important thing, right???

stupid

4. Fullsuits With Boardshorts - I know, we’ve all probably done it at some point. But just because I had a Vanilla Ice tape in third grade doesn’t mean I still bump it. Jeff McKee effectively put this trend to rest recently with a few clicks on the keyboard over at Alliance’s website. He said “Fullsuits with boardshorts are the number one indicator of a small wiener.” Well played, sir. Well played.

3. Big Ol’ Melan 180’s - There was a time not too long ago when this trick would have been at the number 1 spot on the “Hot” list, but times they have a-changed and this trick is officially played out. When you watch the Pro Tour on TV and see every single rider do the same trick in their pass, it gets kind of old. A big Melan 180 into the flats has become the S-Bend of the 21st century. Time to move on, fellas.

2. Bandanas - Seriously, you guys are not in a biker gang. Like a lot of great fashion trends, this one seemed to start on the West Coast (most notably Canyon Lake, CA) and migrate across the country. Wakeboarders have been spotted with bandanas and other cranial accessories for several years now, and normal people everywhere cant help but wonder why. There’s no good reason why wakeboarders should dress like Aunt Jemima, unless maybe because you have really long hair. Which brings us to our #1 played out trend of 2009:

1. Really Long Hair - This has been a growing problem for some time now (see what I did there?) and it’s time to cut it out (I’m on fire!). It’s gotten to the point where I can’t tell the difference between Surf Expo and a Widespread Panic show. You guys are not Samson, you can cut that shit off and still be able to do your tricks. You’ll probably be better off because your hair won’t be slapping you in the eyeballs and you won’t have to wear that stupid bandana. Even Eric Ruck cut his hair last fall, and that dude pretty much led the hair-farming revolution of the past five years. It’s wakeboarding in 2009, and long haired freaky people need not apply. (Note – Collin Harrington’s the man, but I found a shot of him committing two wake fashion faux pas at the same time and couldn’t help but use it.)

Now, on to the “Hot” list. Keep your eyes open, cause you’re about to see this stuff everywhere you turn.

progress1

5. Riding in Short Sleeve Button Down Shirts - Wake-a-holics like myself usually avoid a collared shirt like the plague, but we all have to grow up sometime. People have been riding in t-shirts for years, mainly because it looks cool, it feels cool, and it covers up a farmer’s tan really well. Now, you can get the same effects of riding in a t-shirt, but look a little more grown up while you do it. Plus, you’ll already have a collared shirt ready to go when it’s time to go looking for a job. It’s a win-win!

4. Summerbirds in the Cellar - These guys are hotter than Hell in the wake scene right now. They’ve got mags reviewing their records, pro riders rocking their t-shirts, and video guys using the jams in their movies. I hope these guys have some polarized shades, because their future is looking bright. They’ve got a new record coming out, so go scoop it up and play it on the boat. It’ll probably make you ride better. Note – An honorable mention has to go to Young Brother, who also appear to be kicking out some quality jams.

3. Winches – They’re not really a new idea, but winches are going to straight blow up in 2009. Why? Because we’re currently in an apocalyptic recession and people are freaking out about money. Desperate times call for desperate measures and if you can’t afford a boat, then you’re going to have to figure out another way to get yer shred on. You’re going to see a lot guys taking it to the streets in ‘09, doing really cool things at spots that were once deemed untouchable. You’ll also probably see a lot of video of riders getting hassled by the police, which will both increase your core score and make us laugh at the same time. I just hope there’s not a widespread drought anytime soon, because we’d really be screwed then.

n40503601_34204312_6109

2. Flex Boards – If you’ve ever read these pages before, you know that we have a huge boner for Slingshot Wakeboards. But it’s not just us; people everywhere are figuring out that flex technology just might be the wave of the future, and it’s resulted in the biggest technological revolution the sport has seen since every manufacturer decided to take a jigsaw to their boards and call it a “bat tail design.” New players are popping up left and right: Slingshot, Company, Humanoid, not to mention the more established brands tinkering around with flex technology. Plus, it’s the single most talked about topic on internet discussion boards, just beating out “Which Boat is Best?” and “Why Aren’t the Girls On Tour This Year?” for the top spot. When the history books have been written and we look back on 2009, it will be known as “The Year That Wake Flexed Its Muscle.” Well, probably not, but it should be, because that sounds really bad ass.

1. Wakeskating - Again, definitley not new, but you’re going to see much more cool stuff from the wakeskaters than you will from the wakeboarders this year, because on top of all the economic reasons (see #2), it’s just cooler. I know Nick is going to give me hell for saying that, but it’s true. Wakeskating is at a point right now that is very similar to the early days of wakeboarding when new riders were coming out of nowhere and blowing minds. It’s just going to be way more exciting to watch unfold and these guys are going to have jaws dropping and cameras firing for the rest of year.  It’s going to be cool to see what goes down…

To sum things up, I can’t believe that you read this much. Seriously, that was so long; you should give yourself a hand. Now go throw away your bandanas, get a haircut and get out there with your wakeskate, winch and button down shirt. You’re now on the cutting edge of wakeboarding fashion…You’re welcome. Now make me proud out there.

You know when you see something and you’re immediately embarrassed for everyone involved? I saw this on the Obscura blog and it looks like it’s a real movie that’s coming out this summer. My money’s on a straight-to-DVD release.

If I know anything, I know this: nothing gets a crowd pumped quite like a dozen rolls to revert set to the music of Trapt. No wonder everyone things that wakeboarders are kooks.

Winter ‘09 – Part Three

Posted in Wakeboarding on March 2, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

Hey, remember us? Remember that trilogy of wakeboard videos we promised you this winter? Well here’s the final installment.

After the Ft. Myers leg of their trip, Nick and Clay met up with the UNCW wakeboard club at Adam Fields’ house on Lake Brantley. Judging from the footy, Adam’s been ripping this winter and has been doing a fair amount of arts and crafts with his board. Also ripping is Adam’s new roommate Derek Cook, who made the move from Cali to the superior American coastline last Fall.

Plus, there’s some footy of the UNCW wakeboard team enjoying their winter break in the Sunshine State, as well as a few shots of our good buddy Travis Propst. Because, in all honesty, if we ever made a video that didn’t have Travis in it, I’m not sure we would know how to act. We’d probably all hate it and call it something like “Not Without My Travis.” It would really be pretty weird.

So anyway, here’s the video. Keep an eye out for Clay falling on a heelside air and a whole lot of blatant sponsor shots and product placement. Because, as Nick would say “Shit yeah, you gots to get paid.”

Shredtown

shredtown

These days, wakeboard blogs are like assholes: everyone has one and lots of them smell like shit. But the dudes from Shredtown are pretty legit and have been putting out some cool videos over the past few months.

They just put up a new video of full of winching in Dallas and it’s definitely worth a couple viewings. They hit some pretty cool gaps, have a big ol’ time and even get hassled by the man. I think Nick said it best when he said they make it all look really fun. Plus, the music is that song “Huddle Formation” by the Go Team and I’ve always thought that was a hot jam.

So yeah, check them out and leave a comment or something. Cause nothing makes you feel like a bad ass quite as much as when dudes you don’t know leave comments about your videos. The internet is serious business, son.

I’m Leaving the CWS

Posted in News on February 11, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

CWS Logo

Okay, so after a lot of thinking and speaking with Rob, I wanted to let you guys know that I won’t be working with the CWS anymore.

It’s been four or five pretty awesome years, but all good things must eventually come to an end. As some of you know, I just moved and started a new job and there is so much going on right now that there’s no way I’d be able to give the CWS the same amount of effort and energy that I have in the past. I figured it would be better to just bow out gracefully now than try to make it work and quite possibly end up bailing on Rob halfway through the season.

There’s no drama or hard feelings and I’m sure that Rob will keep putting on awesome contests. As for me, I’ll be learning my way around the wonderful world of insurance here at Lake Norman and hopefully riding every now and then. It’s been rad getting to know all you guys and I hope I’ll be able to make it out to a few contests this summer and see everyone.

Be sure to stay tuned here, though; Nick and I have a few tricks up our sleeves for 2009. Anyway, this is getting a little too cheesy and self-important, so I’m going to leave it at that. Thanks…

Brad

PS – I guess Rob is looking for an announcer now, so if any of you have mad flow on the mic and know the tricks, give him a shout.

Winter ‘09: Part Two

Posted in Features, Wakeboarding on February 9, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

I realize that this has been a long time coming, but give us a break…it’s winter and we’ve only got so much footy that we have to last us until Spring. Speaking of which, how about this weather? I hope somebody out there on the world wide web got to ride this weekend, because I sure didn’t.

I did make my way over to the boat show here in Charlotte and I must say that need to scrounge up about $92,000 because that Byerly Edition boat that Correct Craft released last year is looking on point.

Anyway, here’s the second part of our epic Winter ‘09 mini-series. This episode finds our heroes at the new cable park in Ft. Myers, FL. They try their hand at constructing a seaworthy vessel out of cardboard, then go and tear the rooftop rail to shreds.  Check it out and stay tuned; I’m making a trip down to Wilmington next weekend to edit part three.

Winter ‘09: Part One

Posted in Shoots, Wakeboarding on January 12, 2009 by telepromptedanthems

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything due to a much-deserved break over the holiday season. Seriously. I work really hard and sometimes you just gotta take a break, so I spent the majority of the holiday season eating, drinking, and not taking part in much physical activity. I popped into some internet chat rooms and checked on my Shred Till Death homeboys, but for the most part I’m pretty out of loop and haven’t thought a whole lot about wakin.’

Nick, on the other hand, has been busy as a bee. He and Clay had their little love jaunt to Orlando right before Christmas and now he’s packing his bags to head back this weekend to celebrate Martin Luther King’s birthday. Add that to the Christmas and New Years schedule, and it might seem like he has a full plate, but he somehow managed to find the time to put together a summary of his trip last month. Check it out below and be sure to stay tuned for the next installments in the series, as well as updates from the road this weekend.

Should old acquaintance be forgot, it’s 2009 bitches. Happy New Year…

PS – If you want to see the video in HD, go check out the TA page on Vimeo. That’s right: HIGH DEFINITION. We’ve hit the big time, son. Expect big things…

Nice Scarecrow, Nick

Scarecrow

Nick and Clay have been reporting in with updates from their excursion to Florida and everything is going well. They’ve been hanging out with T Propst and Adam Fields and thanks to our friend Jessica, they’ve gotten some shots to prove it.

Method son

Adam was so psyched on his new board that he went out and did some methods that could have poked somebody’s eye out.

Stalefish

While they were in Orlando, some mark ass trick stepped on Clay Martin’s sneakers, then poured Morton salt all over him. When asked about the exchange, Clay did this stalefish and said “Let’s roll on them fools at their own barbeque.”

Nick at Work

It wasn’t all fun and games, though…Looks like Nick was doing work while he was down there.

Stay tuned for some of the footy. Thanks for the shots, Jessica!

More Not Wakeboarding

Sorry folks. If you’re going through wake withdrawals, go to Wakeworld and check out their forum. I hear that Aaron Rathy is riding for Byerly now and Jimmy LaRiche landed a 1080. Yeah baby, a mother-effing TEN EIGHTY!!!

However, despite the lack of activity up here in NC, a little bird told me that Nick and Clay, wakeboarding’s hottest new couple, are on a little Florida getaway to visit some friends and rumor has it they took a bad ass new camera with them. Stay tuned to see what went down.

Anyway, here’s something funny that has nothing whatsoever to do with wakin.’

PS – How ’bout them Panthers???

I have a Brand new in-box PlayStation 3 gaming system that you can obtain for a special price. It is the 80gb model and includes 2 brand new dualshock 3 wireless controllers.I do not want your money or thanks. To obtain this top of line gaming system, you must let me punch you in the face three times and your child must be present. If you have multiple children, I would prefer you bring your youngest child. This is not a joke. If you want to be your children’s hero on Christmas, we will meet at a location that I will specify to you, and I will proceed to punch you in the face in front of your child. You may brace yourself if you want before I begin to punch you, for I am a man of large stature (6′6, 275lbs) In between each punch, I want you to instruct your child not cry. If your child so much as whimpers, the deal is off. Don’t think I am a man to be trifled with or that you and a friend can ambush me. I am a former NAVY SEAL and a veteran of the Irag War.

This is the best deal you will ever find on a PlayStation 3. A truly unique offer. You are welcome to inspect the product for authenticity before the deal is done.
Email me for more specific details and we can arrange a rendevous.

Merry Christmas.

SHRED ‘TIL DEATH!!!

Posted in Random with tags , , , on November 20, 2008 by telepromptedanthems

Shredder

Found this on the Wakeworld discussion forums. I still can’t figure out if it’s for real or not, but it’s pretty funny either way.

This is a message I recieved from a friend early morning on November 15, this is how my crew thinks about shredding and i hope yours does too…hope you enjoy.

Our lives are gifts dude. Being able to shred is a gift. Do you know what introduced you to shred? I don’t even know, because I know I skate and wakeboarded for a while, not truly understanding what shredding really meant. I don’t think until recently like in the past couple years I really understood what shredding is. Shredding is a term that should not be taken lightly. I know it is thrown around like duuuude lets shred the gnar and stuff like that. But shred, shredding and the shred have a deep true meaning. I believe it is a word understood by a select few, and the shred is the only way to describe this way of life. Try to imagine a life without shred, no skate, no wake, no snow, who would we be? What would we live for, what would we get pumped about? What would we think about? What would we try to do with our lives? Its nuts thinking about how much this shred thing has affected our lives, seriously dude, what would we be talking about without our love for shredding, trying to make a load of money? But to do what with? Buy a big house and a fast car? I just think that shredding puts a lot of things in perspective like some of the best things in life aren’t hard to obtain if you want it for the right reason, I just think its so badass that we know what fuels us and we know what truly makes us happy and we can live this life, its just a matter of choice, people could see us as bums or losers cause we’re not making a lot of money, which seems to be the most important thing in our society, I dunno dude, I guess what im trying to say is we’re really lucky to have this shred thing cause I feel like all the rest don’t have anything like that and don’t really know what to want other than a job that pays a lot no matter how boring and time consuming the job is, it’s a trip to think about how we’re just humans living on planet earth and we do this thing we call shredding and we love it, we think it’s the most badass thing that exists, we think about it everyday, we want to do it every chance we get, it really is apart of us, we really do have something that very few have, a passion, something we love, something we pursue, we wont ever change, we are shredders for life, lets all be thankful for the shred in our lives and thank God that we have something that we really do love. This life is short, we will all die at some point, we all have awesome lives especially us shredders, lets live everyday we are able and never look back, we gotta stay true to what we love and not fall into any kind of bs, we have been givin many gifts, we are blessed dude, we have a lot, be thankful and live well brotha, shred all you can cause it’s a gift, one life dude we have only one life, only one, and we know what we wanna do with it, we’re gonna shred till we die, why would we do anything else!? STD!! Shred Till Death!!!

Woah.
